Making Money and Sense in Regional News – The Challenges and Opportunities Ahead

The future of regional and local news media has emerged as a key issue for policy makers, advertisers, journalists — and, most importantly, the communities they serve. Research by the ACCC, for its digital platforms inquiry, revealed a 15 per cent decline in the total of unique local and regional newspaper titles over the past decade. It also found that over the same period 21 local government areas had been left without any coverage from a single local newspaper, 16 of them in regional Australia.
