We live at a time when more and more people yearn to be in control of their own lives, just as they also feel more disempowered than ever before.
People from all walks of life have an increasing sense, in other words, that what they feel about their services, jobs, communities and futures ought to matter, but somehow it goes unheard. We see this in politics, media and business as usual, where decision-making in institutions does not lie with users of services or the front-line workforce, but instead is increasingly the purview of a small, often removed, group.
