1.6m metro viewers tune in for Rio 2016 Opening Ceremony – lowest number since ratings began

Seven’s broadcast of the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games pulled in 1.608m metro viewers yesterday morning.

Although a strong number for a Saturday morning, the Opening Ceremony ratings are the lowest since the modern OzTam ratings system began.

Four years ago the opening of the London Olympics, a dawn broadcast, rated 1.7m for Nine, which was itself a new low.

However, Seven will argue that more viewers will have watched the Olympics via its online streaming this time round.
