2013 predictions
In this roundup from the Encore and Mumbrella Annual, we predict what’s to come over the next 12 months.
1. The year of mergers and acquisitions
If there is a theme for 2013, it will be mergers and acquisitions as the well-off media players look to strengthen their position.
The hot companies to watch will be Ten, APN and Fairfax, whose low valuations make them all targets.
What about this one: all newspaper groups in Australia produce operating losses for the first time? Without trademe, Fairfax is very likely. And news LTD without foxtel or investment properties looks the same. APN of course is pretty much there.
Interesting view re. Kyle and Jackie O. I reckon Sandilands will quit if he sees the writing on the wall. Of course, it will be framed as an exciting new opportunity, moving to US or some such thing. In any case, if 2Day wants to hang on to its licence – and surely ACMA got to get some bite eventually – it’s going to have to adopt a style that’s at odds with his instincts.
