2014 Annual: The TV flops and TV hits
It has been another a year of hit and misses in TV land. Here Steve Jones recaps some of the biggest TV flops of 2014 and some of the big successes.
The Flops
The Biggest Loser, Ten
When the boss of a TV network publicly admits that one of its programs bombed, you know it was a monumental flop. The Biggest Loser was one such show named and shamed by Ten.
I think Big Brother should be added as a flop here. One show among many in the last half of the year to bomb.
This 3rd series of the Voice was the worst, and Anja Nissen, she’s a good singer but in no way shape or form was she the best of the lot. They also blew their chance to market her by at first delaying, then rejecting the winners single and video, then releasing a pedestrian will.i.am track instead weeks later. An absolute mess. Let’s hope the 4th series doesn’t make the same mistakes.
More Ten bashing by the looks of it. Interesting there’s no mention of Bringing Sexy Back, The Big Adventure, When Love Comes to Town – all of which are unlikely to make it back to 7/9 due to poor ratings.
“In what was a largely forgettable year for Ten”. While 2013 could be seen as forgettable, in 2014 Ten actually had a solid year – with gains in The Project, The Bachelor, The Living Room etc, plus the launch of The Big Bash League and Family Feud, leading to an overall network improvement.
Agree@Verite -I think Tens had some good wins and will have better 2015. Master Chef was a stand out. All of the commercial broadcasters have had some shockers! Thinking of the Big Adventure!
