2020’s breakfast battles officially begin with 225,000 metro viewers for Today and 293,000 for Sunrise
The first official match-up between Today and Sunrise has seen a slightly smaller gap between the two morning programs than was seen throughout the majority of 2019. Nine’s Today was back with its new line-up of Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon and drew 225,000 metro viewers, while and Sunrise pulled 293,000.
With regional figures added in, Sunrise drew an audience of 485,000 and Today 335,000.

So far, so good for Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon as their 2020 season begins on Today
For comparison sake, do you have figures for ABC News Breakfast? Their performance through the bushfire crisis has been stellar – how did they line up compared to the Sunrise-Today circus?
Good point, Max.
Yesterday morning, ABC News Breakfast averaged 125,000 metro viewers, and 62,000 in the regions (total: 187,000).
It’s worth noting that for ratings purposes, ABC News Breakfast is listed as just one program, where as Sunrise and Today are split into multiple segments.
So:
Today (Early): 126,000 (metro), 66,000 (regional): 193,000
Today (Main): 225,000 (metro), 109,000 (regional): 335,000 (I’m aware that doesn’t add up – it’s just what I have from OzTAM)
Sunrise (Early): 160,000 (metro), 96,000 (regional): 256,000
Sunrise (Main): 293,000 (metro), 192,000 (regional): 485,000
Sunrise (Extended): 161,000 (metro), 118,000 (regional): 279,000

Thanks Vivienne for the extra detail. I find the endless Sunrise/Today circus unwatchable so am always curious to see how ABC News Breakfast is doing. It never annoys or insults me like the others do.
I suspect the average audiences mask the real impact of these shows.
Can we get the cume as well, please? My guess is there is a fair amount of 10-15 minute viewing blocks as people cram in some toast before heading to life.
Hi,
I can try to chase this down, but it’s not something which is shared with us.
I’m sure you’re right though, as not many people are sitting down for three hours to consume the whole thing.
Thanks,
Vivienne – Mumbrella
With the greatest respect 9 are trumpeting sat sun and mon morning out of official ratings as though the messiah has arrived. What is clear still is that more people continue to turn to sunrise nationally, numbers are higher than normal for this time with viewers following these catastrophic bush fires as might be expected.
For the record i work for no one, I am a retired statistician very familiar with how OzTAM run the tv ratings.
I’m sorry will not be watching nine’s Today breakfast show while Karl is on the desk, have not liked the fellow since his gold Logie win. He grew a big head and still has it. I did like the team hosting during the Xmas/ new year break, bring them back, no offence to Alison. I now watch ABC News Breakfast.
