2Day FM’s new dump button prevents Andrew G’s Kyle comments making it to air
The newly installed dump button got its first work out on 2Day FM’s breakfast show this morning during an on-air conversation about suspended Kyle Sandilands.
While it is unclear exactly what was said by stand-in presenter Andrew G, Mumbrella understands that the dump button was pressed by co-host Brian McFadden when the topic of Sandilands – who is due to return next week – came up.
Sandilands has been off the air for three weeks since suggesting that Magda Szubanski could lose weight at a concentration camp.
During a conversation shortly before 9am, they hosts were discussing an appearance by Australian Idol judge Marcia Hines on Nine’s Today show. Hines had been defending Sandilands. After playing the clip, in which Hines said Sandilands was very different to his image, Andrew G seemed to be agreeing, before he was abruptly cut off. The show then went straight to an ad break, before playing a song, and then cutting to the news, without an explanation for what had occurred.
Although it is unclear exactly what took place, Andrew G posted a photograph of the studio’s dump button via Twitter earlier today.
A spokesman for 2Day FM’s owner Austereo told Mumbrella that although she had not heard the tape, McFadden had “panicked” by pressing the button and what was said was uncontroversial. She said: “There was no need to push it. Brian got a bit carried away. He heard the name Kyle and pushed it.”
Andrew G, Kylie Sandilands, Marcia Hines, 2DayFM, Australian Idol…. conflict of interest much?
Hearing Kyle’s name sometimes make me panic too.
So lets just get this straight – the person with the sole responsibility for controlling what gets broadcast and what doesn’t is an Irish pop singer?
Hope he has a law degree…
‘Pop” is short for popular yes? In that case I would describe McFadden as Irish and a singer.
“Singer” usually refers to one who can sign. So I would describe him as Irish.
I know it’s naff to say LOL these days but, Adam Paull, your comment made me do just that. Love it.
Rochelle, what does one say instead of LOL if it’s a bit naff these days. personally, i can’t stand he he he.
I wish that button could be used on TV at times
CK Cash, try the little red button near the top of your remote control.
just so everyone knows, brian mcfadden is one of kyle’s hangers on… there is all this footage of mcfadden holidaying with kyle… even in the week of the sacking, when mcfadden went on as a guest judge on idol… some friend eh?!?!
Wonder what Gee said !!!
Have to agree with Sean on that one..the footage of him with Kyle and co lunching the other day makes him a fanboy
For all the Kyle fans out there – here’s a brand spanking new video fo him looking VERY fat!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQlYqLbNx-w
very, very cheeky marketing! 🙂
What a shame the dump button got hit, he probably had something interesting to say for once.
The mere mention of Kyle makes me want to go and take a dump.
Gee’s hosting the Commercial Radio Australia conference in Sydney this Friday and the awards Saturday night – if “King” Kyle doesn’t get a mention – I’d be very surprised…
room full of industry people and all…?
That red dump button is on all the microphone bases if you look closely at the pics on their website
… it wasn’t just Brian who had access to it.
If it’s on every mic, then it’s not a dump button, it’s a cough mute button. Entirely different thing.
