72andSunny and Optus part ways after just one year

72andSunny Sydney will no longer be working with Optus, one of its biggest clients, Mumbrella can reveal.
The agency was made a “full-time partner” on the Optus creative roster in March last year, when M&C Saatchi and The Works were dropped from the roster.
Last week, 72andSunny’s ECD Micah Walker departed the agency after joining eight months prior.
Optus’ creative roster currently consists of Emotive, Big Red, M&C Saatchi-owned Re and the brand’s internal agency the Yes Agency.
A spokesperson from 72andSunny confirmed the split to Mumbrella.
“We have worked with Optus over the past year on a project basis producing campaigns ‘Get Splashy’, ‘World Cup’, ‘Chip Shop’ and ‘Prison’. We’re proud of the work our team created during this period.”
During its time on the roster, 72andSunny created a network campaign for Optus which insinuated bad mobile coverage was as bad as a jail sentence.
The news comes as Optus hires Seven’s chief digital officer Clive Dickens as its VP for television, content and product development.
Optus declined to comment.
Yet again they can’t hold on to a good agency.
Amazing work on that screen grab guys.
This makes me sad. Why are clients allowed to do this to agencies? The work was good. Pity the agency fool who says yes to these numbnuts next.
New agency. Foundation client.
Average work.
New ECD arrives. Work improves.
New ECD leaves. Client leaves.
Or am I missing something?
When will Optus work out that their agencies aren’t the issue. Probably never
Or new ECD starts and Optus leaves.
Wouldn’t be first time a client has had a reaction like that.
Optus does it again. A revolving door of talented agencies, but the work remains consistently average. You have to wonder why agencies even pitch for their business.
everyone blames the client
Yeah, leave the client alone.
Until they’ve tried every agency in Sydney how are the Optus marketing team meant to make their minds up?
The client was on the agency side for a very long time.Would expect better judgement when appointing new shops.
