ABC and SBS to receive an extra $60m if Labor wins, says Bill Shorten
Bill Shorten has announced a $60m funding injection for ABC and SBS if Labor wins the election on Saturday.
$40m of the funding will go to ABC while $20m will be given to SBS. The funding is in addition to the ALP’s promise to scrap the $84m indexation pause imposed by the Coalition government, which is due to come into effect on July 1.

Where on earth did the figure of “over half a billion dollars” come from?
How is one side of politics promising a $60M bonanza to the ABC not a straight up bribe to secure continued uncritical coverage? Blind Freddy can see the ABC’s empathy for the ALP and the faux independents upon whom the ALP depends to get elected. I wonder if say, the Coalition promised a grant of $60M to the Daily Telegraph, would it be taken as benignly as this story was? You’d hear the screeching of the Greens on the far side of the Milky Way.
How is one side promising to cut ABC funding not a straight up bribe to the Murdoch media?
