ABC and SMH lead Twitter news sharing race
The latest update for Australian online sharing on Twitter shows the ABC and Sydney Morning Herald online compete closely for the title of most shared links.
The updated six monthly study, conducted by the Queensland University of Technology’s Centre for Creative Industries and Innovation, showed that there were “three tiers” of news sharing in Australia.
The SMH online and ABC lead well above their competitors on the top tier, followed by The Age and News.com.au on a second tier and then followed by other major media outlets clubbed broadly together on a third tier.
You don’t reckon the difference in the rate of sharing has anything to do with the fact that News Ltd websites are behind a paywall?
Independent Australia is an investigative news website, with opinion very much being secondary. Crikey is also primarily a news website. So what’s with the two graphs? Bruns appears not to have a clear understanding of the publications he is researching and so his definitions seem arbitrary – or perhaps they are just “convenient” I’m not sure I trust this research, since IA was not even included in his stats last year until I contacted him. What other sites is prominent sites is he missing?
Jason you make a good point. Why would you share a rehashed press release that is locked down v one that isn’t?
Another observation could point to savvy people using social sharing platforms like Twitter. Savvy people are usually smart. Why would smart people read the Murdoch Press, over other media outlets who have less of an agenda?
