ABC appoints its first channel controller
ABC TV has appointed Brendan Dahill as channel controller for ABC1, to manage the channel’s vision, branding and programming.
The new role is part of the public broadcaster’s management restructure, and will be followed by similar appointments for ABC2, ABC Children’s and ABC Multiplatform.
In a late march email to staff, ABC TV managing director Kim Dalton said that the Channel Controller model would separate strategic functions from operational requirements, in order to focus on the core business of aggregating content and distributing it to audiences within a multi-channel, multiplatform environment. The model was expected to be implemented by July 1.
On April 9, the ABC advertised the ABC1 and ABC 2 controller positions, as well as head of fiction, manager for television media operations, and content business analyst roles.
