ABC dominates Saturday despite decent Derby Day audience for Seven

ABC claimed a rare ratings night win pulling an 18.4% audience share with Seven only managing third place despite having coverage of Derby Day at the Melbourne Cup Festival.

Derby Day, which saw jockey Dean Yendall reprimanded by authorities after saying he had a “raging horn” in an interview with Seven after his win in the headline race, managed an average audience of 374,000 viewers, according to OzTam overnight metro ratings.

And while Seven News was the second most watched show of the day with 782,000 viewers, behind ABC News with 808,000 viewers, the channel could only muster a 13.8% audience share the the day, behind Nine with 15.2%.

That allowed Nine to seal its fourth ratings week win in a row with an overall share of 18.7% with Seven in second with 17.9%.

The ABC win was sealed with the network securing five of the top ten shows with Doc Martin at 7.30pm managing 713,000 viewers.

Nine’s top show was news with 690,000, with film Pacific Rim managing 356,000 viewers from 7pm.
