ABC, Mamamia, and Shameless dominate a quiet January on the Podcast Ranker
The ABC has three podcasts in the Top 10 of this month’s Podcast Ranker (Australian Made), while Mamamia and Shameless both stroll past the dormant Casefile.
January, like December, is a notoriously quiet month for the podcasting calendar, with a number of radio-based shows not returning to the airwaves until mid-way through the month, and both Casefile and Hamish and Andy – who traditionally trade the #1 and #2 places on the list – still on hiatus.
Casefile has slipped from #2 to #4, and Hamish and Andy fell from #5 to #9, allowing Mamamia Out Loud to jump to its all-time high spot of #2, and Shameless to also enjoy an all-time high at #3.
This has allowed ABC News Top Stories podcast to top the charts for the two months, although its bite-sized format also gives it a massive advantage: with 2.23 million downloads across 394 episodes, this means just 5,663 downloads each episode is enough to give it the Australian Podcast Ranker crown.
Conversations also climbed to #5 for the ABC, with its ABC News Daily podcast moving from #10 to #7.
Elsewhere in the top ten, Life Uncut jumped to #8, while Sky News Australia Update fell from #8 to #10 – with just 10,665 downloads per episode enough to keep it in the ten.
