ABC News bumps SMH into third place in the Nielsen news rankings
ABC News websites have bumped Fairfax Media’s SMH.com.au out of the second spot of the Nielsen Digital Ratings (Monthly) rankings after growing its audience by 8% in June, month-on-month.
The ABC posted a June audience of 5.003m, up from 4.635m in May, while the SMH saw its audience drop by 4%, below the 5m mark, to 4,911m.
News Corp’s News.com.au retained its number one position with a June audience of 5.463m, down 1% from its May audience of 5.494m.
I wonder whether we are seeing an inflection and whether it parallels the direction of managements? Fairfax has clearly dumped any pretence to news gathering as its brand driver while the abc might have taken a positive step in the wake of Scott’s exit to enforce standards? Certainly the axeing of the drum is a mark of better focus.
