Ad Wrap: Seven gears up for Olympics; Allianz wants to poach rival insurer’s customers

Seven is pushing its broadcast of the Rio Olympics in a spot highlighting Australia’s multiculturalism. The one minute long ad features a variety of Australians saying the two countries they’ll be cheering for.

I won’t be cheering for Seven and the way they’ve cut Foxtel out of the Games. In Sydney, Athens and Beijing Seven focussed almost entirely on novelty women’s events including devoting an entire day to women’s BMX racing. They ignore the men’s weightlifting, wrestling and throwing events completely. By contrast, with the London Games I was able to sign up with Foxtel and watch those events in their entirety on dedicated channels. Looks like I’ll have to get my penfriend in the US to record those events and send me DVDs again like he did with the Athens Games in 2004.
