Adam Ferrier and Adam Hunt help Gus Worland create #manup campaign for suicide documentary
The Movember Foundation is the principal backer of a three-part documentary series set to air on ABC TV tonight looking at male suicide, which has given rise to a social media campaign which will be scientifically evaluated for its effectiveness.
In the ManUp series, TripleM breakfast host Gus Worland, who lost his best friend to suicide, takes a look at why it is an increasing problem among 15-44 year old males, and the societal issues that stop them from seeking help.
He also enlists adlanders Adam Ferrier (strategy) and Adam Hunt to help create a social media campaign to run following the show.
It’s not actually correct to say that intentional self harm is ‘ it is an increasing problem among 15-44 year old males’. Since 2006 intentional self harm has increased those aged 15-44 by 310 deaths while it has increased for those aged 45 to 74 by 293 deaths; so it’s about the same.
The bigger story is that there has been a 41% increase in male deaths from intentional self harm from 2006 to 2015 and a 49% increase in women.
Intentional self harm is currently 3,027 deaths per year – three times the national number for motor vehicle accidents. You might think it would be a bigger story than it is.

I am so excited about this show – its a desperately unaddressed issue (mens mental health). Get it right and everyone benefits. Congratulations everyone involved for addressing it – I hope its good.
Congrats big fella for putting the spotlight on a large and pressing, but virtually unspoken, social problem.
