Sydney radio ratings: Alan Jones increased audience in wake of PM furore
Alan Jones’s breakfast show has seen an increase of 0.9 percentage points in the first meaningful round of radio survey ratings since the scandal over his comments about Julia Gillard’s father
Jones said in a speech that the PM’s father had Wdied of shame”. The comments came to light on September 30. This survey period runs from September 16 to October 20, and picked up again from October 28 to December 1.
During the fall-out, brands such as Woolies and Freedom Furniture suspended their ads on 2GB while Mercedes were telling their dealerships not to advertise in the show.
Ha!
Free speech: one.
Delusional internet nerd-bullies: nil.
What happened to 2SM or are their ratings so low they no longer register?
Although I don’t agree with Jonesy – I am happy at this news. I’m sick of melodramatic haters and their social bullying.
People listen to who they want to hear.
2SM don’t participate in the ratings, and haven’t done for years. I believe they withdrew after registering some really low numbers. It would be interesting to see how their current numbers stack up though, particulalry against some of the digital only channels that also don’t subscribe.
Hi Robbo,
If you spoke about your bosses parrents that way, in public, at a dinner, would there be any repocussions? This is about respect, nothing to do with free speech.
It will be interesting to see how John Laws is going on 2SM? The Golden Tonsils has become Sydney Radio’s best kept secret.A bit of advertising on 2SM won’t hurt.
Robbo, Jones has always enjoyed free speech. Sp too do “Delusional internet nerd-bullies” and you.
I find it interesting see Jones’ ratings win as a “victory for free speech”. Jones practices no such thing and is a bully himself.
Neither the social media lynch mob that pursued Jones, Jones himself, or his listeners should claim any sort of victory.
They are ALL bullies.
