Alita: Battle Angel tops weekend box office while Bohemian Rhapsody takes in $53m

James Cameron’s Alita: Battle Angle, the story of an abandoned cyborg bought back to life, topped the weekend’s box office takings on it debut.

The sci-fi movie, based on the Manga series Gunnm, took $3.783m across 453 screens nationally, beating out comedy What Men Want, which took $1.882m on 257 screens.

Green Book, the story of a black pianist and his Italian-American bodyguard touring the US Deep South in 1962, took third place with $885,654 across 293 screens, while last week’s top earner, Escape Room, appeared on 200 screens and earned $760,486.
