Andrew Bolt ‘won’t be silenced’ by the Press Council, as he ‘refuses to respect’ proceedings
Political commentator Andrew Bolt has claimed he will not answer any questions or respect Press Council proceedings around an article he wrote about mass immigration.
Bolt’s latest article, published by The Daily Telegraph on August 6, said no official body should “interfere in the exchange of opinions”.

Freedom of speech is freedom from consequences. If there are consequences from your speech – like going to jail or getting fined – then speech is not free.
Unfortunately IIA, THAT type of freedom doesn’t exist EVEN on a universal level. EVERYTHING we do in our lives has consequences ; this is just the way the universe works. Sadly, neither Australia’s Constitution nor the Press Council gives Andrew Bolt no such freedom. In fact, many Australians don’t believe in free speech – except opinions that accord with their own.
Yet free speech is meaningless unless it includes the freedom to offend.
You either support free speech or you don’t. You support unfettered freedom of speech, including freedom to express hate.
Why should the law hold Andrew Bolt accountable for hurting someone’s feelings?

How is it that the extreme left can say all they like about daily issues, yet a middle of the road journo gets requests about his or her comments. I think it is about time these press councils are taken to task by the civil liberties bodies and the officials removed.
