Animal Kingdom gets US release date

Animal KingdomDavid Michod’s Animal Kingdom will be released in the US on August 13.

The date was first published by The New York Times; the newspaper has included Jacki Weaver in its ‘Breakthrough Performances in Summer Movies” list, for her portrayal of the Cody matriarch.

The entry reads:
“Thoughts of Lady Macbeth conjure up a dark temptress, sinister and seductive. But in David Michod’s Animal Kingdom (Aug. 13) the veteran Australian actress Jacki Weaver plays her version of a belle dame sans merci as a dumpling cheerily nicknamed Smurf. A 60-ish brassy blonde who dresses too young, she’s the controlling matriarch of the bank-robbing, sometimes murderous Cody family of Melbourne — dad long gone, three sons and a close pal at the ready, and, when her long-estranged daughter dies of a heroin overdose, a teenage grandson who doesn’t quite fit in.”
