ARN launches music streaming site iHeartRadio
The Australian Radio Network has entered the digital music streaming space today with the launch of iHeartRadio in beta, marking the first expansion of the digital music service outside of the US.
As the latest radio company to enter the music streaming space, ARN’s new digital station will compete with Songl, launched by Southern Cross Austereo following a deal with Digital Music Distribution in October, as well as Telstra’s music streaming channel MOG, and dmg Radio Australia’s partnership with Rdio in August last year.
Also operating in the space are digital music streaming stations Spotify and Pandora along with locally created service Guvera.
ARN has made the beta web version of iHeartRadio available in Australia and New Zealand from today at iheartradio.com.au, and the full service will become available at the time of the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas next month.
ARN CEO Ciaran Davis said: “iHeartRadio combines the best of radio and digital, bringing together radio’s live and local relationships and the personal functionality of digital. We are leading the radio industry into its next era and are excited to be providing this unique digital service to the Australian public for the first time.”
ARN, owned by APN News and Media and Clear Channel International, struck the deal with iHeartRadio, owned by Clear Channel, in October, which at the time had acquired 18m registered users in the US over one year.
iHeartRadio claims the service reached 30 million registered users faster than Facebook, Twitter, Pandora or Spotify, and its apps have been downloaded 180 million times globally
The business of music streaming was debated by key players at the Mumbrella 360 conference last year.

If you believe that you are deluded.
This isn’t even available on mobile device, how you going to listen to that in the car on the train or at the gym?
Laughable!
