Radio Ratings: ARN’s Gold Melbourne’s No 1 in FM, while Triple M’s breakfast holds onto ratings crown
ARN’s Gold has bumped FoxFM from the number one FM station position in Melbourne, with Gold increasing its audience by 1 share point to a share of 8.8 per centwhile FoxFM dropped 6th position out of the FM stations with a share of 7.3 per cent, according to new radio ratings published today.
Austereo’s Triple M’s breakfast team of Eddie McGuire, Mick Molloy and Luke Darcy have had to settle for sharing their ratings crown with Nova’s Meshel and Tommy with both stations managing a share of 7.4 per cent. The tie comes as a result of the Triple M breakfast’s audience dropping by 0.6 of a share point while Nova’s team maintained their share.
FoxFM’s breakfast duo of Fifi Box and Dave Thornton were pushed into third place in the FM breakfast rankings with a share of 7.2 per cent.
wrong! wrong! wrong!
“ARN’s Gold has bumped FoxFM from the number one station position in Melbourne”
When will journalists start reporting the numbers correctly? Gold is in THIRD position in Melbourne being beaten by 774 and 3AW.
You could at least amend the copy to say number one FM station position in Melbourne. But even if you do that it still takes away from the success of the much more popular AM stations who compete in the same market.
Hi Peter,
Yes normally we are at pains to make that distinction and the headline did say number one in FM. Unfortunately this was missed in the lead and has now been corrected.
Cheers

Thanks Nic.
The AM stations really do get a bum deal in the reporting and spin of radio ratings. The real story this survey has been 774 beating 3AW for the top spot – but this was only mentioned in the last two paragraphs of the article as an aside.
