Australian drama Satellite Boy makes modest box office debut

Satellite Boy posterAustralian drama Satellite Boy, which stars veteran indigenous actor David Gulpilil, took a modest $32,695 at the weekend box office amidst the debut of World War Z, Monsters University and Despicable Me 2.

Satellite Boy was shown on 10 screens around Australia this weekend, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia, earning an average of $3,270 per screen.

The story follows a young indigenous boy (Cameron Wallaby) who fights to save his home with the help of his elderly grandfather, Old Jagamarra (Gulpilil).

Including preview screenings, the Eone/Hopscotch film has earned $88,695. It went into production in 2011 and was directed by Catriona McKenzie.
