Australian executive producer secures Russian distribution for zombie film

The Australian executive producer and sales agent of a new Russian zombie film has secured distribution for the film in its native Russia with interest for the rest of the world.

Pete Ford of Resolution Independent took on the executive producer role of horror flick Metelesta, directed by Nikolai Pigarev, to secure the horror flick for a major distribution deal across Russia.

Ford is now in negotiation for territories USA, UK and Japan.

Pigarev previously worked on Ford’s low budget film Star Jackers.

Ford told Encore: “I literally bumped into him at NAB, the National Association of Broadcasters that happens each year in Las Vegas. He mentioned he was making the film. He asked me some advice about how to get a sales agent and, without blowing my own horn, to his credit he did everything I said. I looked at the material and it was so far and above what I expected, but he needed money to do sound post so we brought that here and we’ve done the marketing and distribution.”

Ford engaged Melbourne-based Chroma Media to do the post sound design.

Ford told Encore he was still unsure about a proper Australian release. He said: “The Australian market for horror is so marginal we may experiment with self-distribution but that’s something to say stay tuned to. It’ll be the last territory that sells.”

Ford will also work with Pigarev on the film-maker’s next project: “We’ve got him secured for his next project, commissioning the script about a group of soldiers in the North of Russia tackling genetically-modified polar bears.”

The Meteletsa poster was created by Australian artist Ashley Wood, creator of graphic novel Popbot which is getting a feature film adaptation by Resolution Independent.
