Australian horror film Wolf Creek 2 enjoys big first weekend in the box office

Australian horror film Wolf Creek 2 has claimed the Australian box office number one rank in its first weekend after opening on Thursday, making $1.681 million across 216 screens.

The Roadshow Films-distributed sequel to Wolf Creek, which once again tells the story of a tourist becoming the prey for serial-killer Mick Taylor, beat Disney’s Lone Survivor which also saw The Wolf of Wall Street fall to third spot for the first time since opening.

Lone Survior, which stars Mark Wahlberg as Marcus Luttrel and tells the story of how he and his team set out on a mission to capture or kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shah in late June 2005, made $1.485 across 259 screens.

The Wolf of Wall Street once again drew in just over $1 million in tickets across 307 screens, bringing the films takings since it opened at the end of January to $19.857 million.
