Australian Lee Glendinning appointed editor of the Guardian US operation
Australian Lee Glendinning has been appointed to the role of editor of the Guardian’s US operations.
Glendinning was a key player in the Guardian Australia’s launch serving first as its local correspondent prior to its launch, then as deputy editor of Guardian Australia before being promoted to deputy editor of the Guardian US.
Her promotion was announced overnight by newly installed Guardian editor-in-chief, and Guardian Australia launch editor Katharine Viner who said in a statement: “Lee was an integral part of the success of Guardian Australia from the beginning, and has had a similarly dramatic impact on Guardian US, bringing excellent news judgment, digital flair and personal tenacity as well as strong management skills.
Great to see women leading this news organisation (UK, USA, Australia) compared to all the old boys clubs around the news world. Despite the blip last week regarding an erroneously low payment for a writer (who happened to be female) this organisation is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest when it comes to fact-based reporting and ethics. Great to see them growing as a global brand.
Lee is an excellent choice! Congratulations!
