Australian Top Gear sticks with Tuesdays

Nine has shown its hand on its plans for Top Gear Australia, scheduling it on one of Seven’s strongest nights of the week.

The show goes to air on October 19 at 7.30pm, after Ten’s Commonwealth Games coverage finishes. It means it remains in the Tuesday slot which has been occupied by the British edition of the show.

Seven usually dominates Tuesdays with Packed To The Rafters in the 8.30pm slot.

Australian TV viewers have already had their first look at Australian hosts Shane Jacobson, Ewen Page and Steve Pizzati in this week’s Ashes Special which pitched them against Top Gear’s British hosts. The show averaged a health 1.538m capital city audience.

Among the highlights of the show promised by Nine are: “Our hosts take on the ultimate challenge for grey nomads – hitching caravans to cheap 4WDs to see if the great Australian retirement motoring journey is still possible on a tight budget.”

There will also be a guest appearance from retired cricketer Shane Warne.

Among the celebrity test track guests will be Sea Patrol actor Lisa McCune, cricketer Michael Clarke, The Chaser Boys, and Jimmy Barnes.

The show is produced by Freehand.
