Avengers: Infinity War secures second-highest opening weekend in Australian box office history

New Marvel film Avengers: Infinity War broke box office records on its first weekend in Australia, making more than $20m.

The film made $21.239m, making it Australia’s second-highest grossing film for an opening weekend. The only film to beat Avengers: Infinity War is 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which made $27.254m on its opening weekend.

As a direct comp, Avengers (1) also opened on Anzac Day, Wednesday April 25, back in 2012.
It made 6.0 M opening day + 13.3 M weekend for 19.3 M through first Sunday.
Finished with 53.3 M, the 3rd highest total ever at the time, now 5th highest.

Infinity War was +45% higher on Wednesday, +55% through Sunday.
