Battleship leads Universal to top three box office spots, cinema revenue up 13% on 2011

Led by the opening of big budget flick Battleship, film distributor Universal made it three in a row at the Australian box office this week.

The distributor took the top three spots at the box office with Battleship, followed by American Pie: Reunion and Dr Suess’ The Lorax, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.

Directed by Peter Berg, Battleship took $3.9m at the box office across 369 screens for an average of $10,679.

The film stars Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, Rihanna and Brooklyn Decker and is based on the board game, with US battleships fighting an alien invasion.
