Bauer counts down to Elle launch
Bauer Media has released an image of the cover of its first major magazine launch since the company formerly known as ACP Magazines was sold to its new German owners.
Glossy fashion monthly Elle, edited by Justine Cullen, will hit the shelves on Monday, almost two years after first being announced.
The title, owned by Hearst, already exists in most major international markets, In Australia, it is being published by Bauer as a joint venture with Hearst.
Cullen – previously editor of Bauer’s Shop Til You Drop – said in a statement: “We want to inspire women to express their personal style, inform them about the latest trends in fashion, beauty, lifestyle and culture, and entertain them with great writing and beautiful imagery.”
The magazine’s standard cover price will be $8.50 although it is running a subscription promotion pricing it at $5
While the first major launch under the new ownership, Bauer also had a low key launch of World of Knowledge magazine in April.
Not what I expected at all!
Thank God someone has finally had the courage to tackle “is your voice a turn-off”.
Looks like every other glossy. Wouldn’t you choose a cover that pops more on the stands for your first issue? It’s sad, but I’m calling it – shut-down within 1 year.
You’d think with two years to launch they would’ve had a BIG name cover star. Or is that model famous and I simply don’t know it? Still, a HUGE congratulations that it is NOT Jennifer Hawkins…!!!!!
I’m confused. What is this? It’s like a fashion blog but printed? Is that right? But you pay for it and it doesn’t get updated?
Good to see they’ve avoided a big name celebrity for launch cover. Big risk that probably won’t bring in Marie Claire level numbers. More Vogue/Harpers.
Wasn’t there an Australian version of Elle published several years ago? I assume this is a reboot, but very risky as womens fashion mags have been bombing in this country over the last few years. Grazia went belly up several months ago.
Allyson – the Elle magazine you refer to may have been Elle as in Elle McPherson who I think put her name to a magazine for a few years.
Love it, and probably unlike the rest of these commenters I’m bang on the target demo.
Justine Cullen should have put herself on the cover…..she is one saucy laydee
the original elle wasn’t due to Elle McPherson…wow where do these people come from
ELLE magazine was first launched in France in 1945 and expanded to more than 40 countries since its international expansion started in the US in 1985 in a joint-venture with Rupert Murdoch. Elle McPherson graced the covers of many editions, but she is still way to young to have been involved in the creation of the magazine trademark.
This is the third reincarnation of Elle in Australia. I love that the cover is fresh and doesn’t rely on someone we are all sick of to sell it.
Elle Australia was originally launched in 1990 and folded in 2002. It has nothing to do with Elle Macpherson!
I imagine most of the content will be pulled from around the world with a few filler pages of Australian content, which will probably make it a more interesting read while keeping the cost down.
Good luck to them would be nice to see a fashion magazine done well in Australia.
