Bauer to launch World of Knowledge magazine
Australia’s biggest magazine publisher Bauer Media is set to launch its first title since acquiring ACP Magazines last year.
Mumbrella can reveal that monthly science magazine World Of Knowledge will launch shortly with former Zoo and Top Gear journalist Vince Jackson as editor.
World of Knowledge already appears on ACP’s online portal Magshop with 12 and 24-month subscriptions priced at $59.95 and $119.95 respectively.
According to the Magshop description: “World of Knowledge is your new monthly magazine crammed full of amazing stuff about the world we live in. As well as answering the questions we all have about the world we live in, it hopes to inspire a thousand more. From first looks at futuristic technology and solving the puzzles of the universe, to revealing nature’s breathtaking secrets and investigating the most important moments in history, it’ll have something for every member of the family.”
Magazines are sooooooo last century. How very brave of someone to launch a new one.

Yes, hooray for local publishing, we will now get a magazine that is likely to be 90% overseas (UK) content with some token noticeably-placed Australian content (eg an AU cover feature or coverline, a high-profile AU science-boffin having 1-2 pages at the front of the book, a few other AU stories strategically placed here and there among the BBC content). Oh, and every reference to Pounds converted to Aussie Dollars. Hooray for local content creation!
With Bauers acquisition of ACP you state in your piece that Bauer are the biggest magazine publisher in Australia.
Does this cover total (b2b & b2c)?
Does it cover b2c?
Does it cover b2b?
Print aside, how about web related b2c or b2b, are they the biggest in Oz?
If they are or not, is there freely available, credible information to answer these questions?
It would be good to understand who the largest publishers are and how these statistics are calculated.

Christ almighty, you keyboard pundits are just annoying. A ‘magazine’ is just a brand, like anything else. If there is consumer demand for the content the format may change over time, but it will survive/grow/thrive.
Have they just rebranded COSMOS Magazine?
It’s good to see a magazine targeted at a ‘cerebral’ audience. Even happier that they have axed magazine(s) that teach one to excel at bl*w jobs, and tell woman why it’s so important to have this-season’s Jimmy Choo
Yep, PRINT magazines are so last century.
But DIGITAL ‘collections of interactive content’, I shall call them, that can be read on a tablet, are doing fine and have a future.
I’m happy to bet that the above isn’t going to sell much in print format – most people who are interested in this sort of content are going to be looking for it on paper.
But it may sell in digital format, depending on how it’s packaged.
So you’re telling me these Bauer people are ditching trashy or “what shoes will I wear”, magazines and bringing a science and knowledge mag? Nice work!
I hope it’s a sign of things to come from the rest of the media.
Don’t get me wrong, I like shoes, clothes and relationships as much as the next person, but the preoccupation with insipid celebrities or how we look while completely ignoring anything remotely interesting or intelligent is driving me crazy.

Not really the “heavyweight” launch Bauer had promised. It’ll get stuck up the back of the newsagent with all those other weird science/astronomy mags and be lucky to sell 5k…
@Kimberly Diamonds Let me guess. You never actually read madison. A lot of the articles were about world-wide issues, woman’s rights and empowered woman you could look up too, not b**w jobs. I’m not going to say that it also didn’t include a lot about fashion, but hey – some of us like that and it doesn’t mean that we are ditzy girls who only care about their boyfriends.
