Beneath Hill 60
Courtesy of Paramount/Transmission we have the successful war drama Beneath Hill 60 on DVD.
Jeremy Sims’ film tells the story of the first Australian tunnelling division led by Queensland miner Captain Oliver Woodward (Brendan Cowell) to take down Belgium
Death, and the associated fear of it are common to us all. We fear not only our own pain and death but relate intimately to others’. Death is the great unknown and possibly the defining article of the human condition. War magnifies the drama to a point where it is overwhelming and we are forced to focus on our own insecurities in avoid to avoid madness.
On the other hand, the best of humanity can arise within this chaos and horror, and these stories can inspire us to better ourselves and appreciate the true nature of the family of man.

If you feel like adding to your dvd collection then this is the film to add. I didn’t even bother renting this as I went straight out to buy it. Jeremy Sims did a remarkable job directing this film. It was shot with perfection, the acting from ALL actors was flawless and the DOP was breath taking.
I was a little skeptical early in the piece with Jeremy Directing this although I knew he had talent with Last train to Freo. I thought this film would be a few steps in front but Beneath Hill 60 is a stand out and is something I hope wins big at the industry awards. The script was also beautiful. I really enjoyed this and though I don’t know Jeremy Sims personally will definitely give him the benefit of the doubt on future projects. Well done to all involved. Go buy it. Beats a theater ticket anyday.
“Last Train to Freo” is probably one of the most boring films ever made in Australia, however Sims redeemed himself with Beneath Hill 60, (which also had some very slow moments).
Overall BH60 is a good film.
