Best Picture winner Parasite takes $794,000 at the Australian box office in its 34th weekend

After becoming the first foreign language film to win Best Picture at the Oscars last Monday, Parasite has re-entered the top 10 at the Australian box office over the weekend.

In its 34th weekend, the Korean comedic thriller, directed by Bong Joon-ho (who also was awarded Best Director and Original Screenplay), received $749,072 from 100 screens – an increase of 378% from the previous week. The running total for the film now sits at $3.7m.

In its opening weekend, Sonic The Hedgehog flew to the top of the Australian box office, debuting to $3.9m from 365 screens.
