Better late than never, Adelaide gets a dance flash mob
It’s unfairly easy to poke fun at Adelaide being behind the media curve.
Sadly, when it comes to dance flash mobs (you must remember them – they were huge about six months ago), it does appear to be the case though.
Still, better late than never, and truelocal.com.au has filled the gap.
The one that worked best is still T-Mobile’s flash mob at Victoria Station. The beauty was they all looked like “normal” people as opposed to trained dancers like in this one…

In that case I reckon Marketing, Advertising and PR people are the Adelaide of the creative world because Flash Mobs have been going for over 10 years here.
I think the key thing they’ve gotten wrong with this is it went on too bloody long. The point of the flash mob is not the sophistication of the act, it’s the reaction of the crowd. By dragging it out so long, it’s turned from flash mob into standard street performance and they’ve lost those valuable crowd reaction shots.
Compounding the problem is that people watching viral movies don’t have the attention span to sit through something of that duration unless it’s super compelling (which this isn’t – it looks like open air rock eisteddford) and it loses its impact.
the only reason I watched the whole thing was to see what if anything it had to do with truelocal… Oh OK I admit I took a call and answered a few emails..but so alls I’m seeing at the logo at the end?

Clearly a rip-roaring success because I heard several people (it may have been as many as seven or eight!) say “woooooooo” at the end. Talk about impact!
My apologies for my comments about Adelaide. I’m feeling bad now. I did an internship at the Adelaide Advertiser last year and the town is a pretty cool place. And I love their posh accents, I kept asking people when they came to Australia from England? And many responded that they were actually born and bred in Adelaide! Anyone else had this issue?

I’m sorry David Campbell, you and your agency may be the exception to the rule, but let’s face it Adelaide agencies aren’t exactly known for producing ground breaking work so go easy on Tim and his sceptiism.
