Big Bash audiences take a hit
As negotiations over the cricket broadcasting rights continue, Cricket Australia has defended significant falls in stadium and TV audiences for the 2012/13 Big Bash T20 tournament, promising to schedule more games in January in future seasons.
The shorter Twenty20 is seen as the most ratings friendly form of the game.
The declaration comes as the sport blamed international competition for the early scheduling of games outside the holiday season together with poor weather for the drop off in audience.
It’s got me stumped.
Audiences have been hit for 6
I am not a cricket fan, but my son and husband are, so I chose a T20 to go to as I thought it would be more entertaining. Was I wrong, you couldn’t hear the announcements at Stadium Australia, the entertainment was out of time dancers up on a stage behind us who only danced when someone go out and there was no interaction by the cricketers at all. They just played and left the field. No marketing interaction at all.
Worst of all, the security guards took the audiences balls away – the atmosphere was not there at all!
Maybe they need to look at how the NRL and AFL are incorporating family enjoyment.
PS: The Madden brothers were mad 🙂
T20 is the cricket equivalent of Krispy Kreme donuts. A fad for a while but once people realised how unhealthy and lacking substance it is they stayed away.
