BINGE denies being caught in cyberhack: ‘No credit card details have been compromised’

Foxtel’s streaming platform BINGE was reportedly caught up in a widespread credential stuffing attack overnight, however a spokesperson from the company tells Mumbrella this isn’t the case.

As reported by numerous outlets, including Mumbrella, customers of a number of Australian companies have fallen victim to ‘credential stuffing’ attacks, including Event Cinemas, Dan Murphy’s, and Guzman Y Gomez. In credential stuffing attacks, cyber criminals used previously stolen passwords and attempt to use them to access online accounts held under the same name and make purchases.

The initial report of the hack stemmed from cybersecurity company Kasada, whose tracking software showed at least 15,000 Australian online accounts had been breached.

“This is a concerted, targeted effort to hit Australian business who haven’t had to deal with this before,” Kasada founder Sam Crowther told the SMH.

“In the past few weeks the level of activity has gone mental, and it is still going on. While we remain a soft target, the problem will get worse.”

BINGE, however, have not been impacted, according to their spokesperson.

“BINGE customers remain unaffected by credit card scams including the one reported by Kasada and no credit card details have been compromised,” the spokesperson told Mumbrella.

“Credit card details are managed off-platform as part of the comprehensive cyber security systems we have in place. Our customer accounts are monitored 24/7 for cyber activity that may compromise accounts and we have advanced systems in place to block, re-set customer accounts, and notify affected customers, ensuring minimal risk.”
