BlackBerry in World Cup deal

BlackBerry has bought the sponsorship rights to be named “official handheld mobile device” of this year’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.  

The announcement:

Sydney, Australia- 18 April, 2011 – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) and Rugby World Cup Limited (RWCL) have today announced the appointment of RIM as an Official Sponsor and BlackBerry® as the Official Handheld Mobile Device of Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand.

Adele Beachley, Managing Director for RIM Australia and New Zealand, said, “Rugby World Cup 2011 is an eagerly anticipated event in the Southern Hemisphere and it will be a very exciting time for rugby supporters and the people of the region. At RIM ANZ we really wanted to join the RWC 2011 team and get behind the people of New Zealand, the hosts of this global event.”
