Bohemian Rhapsody takes the lead at weekend box office
Bohemian Rhapsody delivered a strong performance on its first weekend at box office, collecting almost $7m in earnings.
The newest film from 20th Century Fox tells the story of well-known UK band, Queen, and the life of lead singer Freddie Mercury, played by Rami Malek.
It pulled $6.760m across 510 screens.
Meanwhile, A Star is Born added $3.648m to its earnings across 368 screens. The film, which has led the weekend box office for the last two weeks, has made almost $20m since its premiere.
It managed to earn more than Halloween films, Halloween, and Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween, which pulled in $1.319m and $697,596 respectively.
Behind Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween was Hunter Killer, which debuted at the weekend box office with $516,853, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia report.
The action thriller, which stars Gerard Butler, Common, Gary Oldman and Linda Cardellini, is centred around American submarine captain Joe Glass, who is searching for a U.S in distress in the Arctic Ocean.

Box office has been in good shape lately with Bohemian Rhapsody following Venom & A Star Is Born. The last of those is on a track for a total over $30 million, a level that in 2018 has been reached by only superheroes (4 times) & dinosaurs (once).

This movie is brilliant not only because it depicts the life of a legend, but is a reminder of the greatness and epicness of an era of Rock and Pop music. A real story of bands writing music together and fighting to keep it alive inspite of everything that’s against them. The critics and purists might want to compare every little detail and find flaws, but I think this movie captured the life and heart of Freddie Mercury and Queen, celebrating their music, determination, perseverance and innovation and will certainly give you goose bumps. The actors and casting is incredible, with some intelligent direction. One of the best movies out this year for me and surely not a movie to miss.
