Brad Pitt’s Ad Astra takes $1.95m in first weekend at the box office, but fails to top Downton Abbey

Ad Astra, the science fiction film fronted by Brad Pitt and co-written and directed by James Gray, took $1.947m in its first weekend in the Australian box office across 364 screens, giving it a strong launch but failing to topple Downton Abbey.

The film, which picks up where the TV show of the same title left off in 2015, took $2.256m for its second weekend across 452 screens, for a running total of $7.097m.
