Brett Clegg has quit as deputy CEO of The Australian after less than two months in the role.

According to Caroline Overington of The Australian, Clegg is moving back to his former role at Fairfax Media, although this morning it was not immediately clear what the role is. Mumbrella understands that he tendered his resignation to News Ltd over the weekend.

Clegg joined The Australian last June as deputy editor after nearly a decade with Fairfax Media’s Australian Financial Review.
