Briand’s Apricot shortlisted for Vimeo Awards

Ben Briand’s short Apricot has been selected as one of the five finalists – out of 6,5000 international submissions – for Best Narrative Film at the 2010 Vimeo Festival and Awards.

“Far more viewers have watched the film online than I could have ever hoped for in the traditional festival environment. The life changing career opportunities that have come from this exposure is a testament to the future of narrative films connecting directly with their target audience online,” said Briand in a statement.

The short, which has been viewed more than 300,000 times online, was produced by Matt Dooley,Michele Bennett, Alexis Bensa and Gaspard Chevance (Cherub Pictures and Moonwalk Films).

Apricot tells the story of a chance encounter between a mysterious man and a beautiful woman, which soon becomes deeply personal. Playful prods about the woman’s first childhood kiss sparks a series of fragmented memories. It has been selected for the Moscow International Film Festival, and has screened at the inaugural Australian Film Festival and St Kilda Film Festival.

Winners of the Vimeo Awards will be announced on October 9. Judges include David Lynch, Morgan Spurlock, Ted Hope, Roman Coppola, and singer M.I.A.
