Brilliant six minute Johhny Walker ad
This one’s been around for a few weeks, but people keep forwarding the link, so I reckon it’s still worth sharing.
Brilliant work on behalf of Johnny Walker by the brilliant London agency BBH. Nice job by Robert Carlyle too. I wonder how many takes were needed.
Tim Burrowes
Superb way to tell the story of the brand’s history. Not many “ads” keep me on board for six minutes.
Thanks for posting this Tim. Great ad. Just hoping that he would turn into Begbie by the end and nut the cameraman.
What a great story, beautifully told, and room for a sequel too!
Odds on this winning Gold at Cannes next year? Pretty good I’d say.
No doubt about it, this is a great piece of work.
The interesting thing was that this was originally intended for an “internal” comms programme.
As far as I can tell BBH (who are indeed brilliant!), took it down from their BBH Labs site a while ago, perhaps pressured by the client?
Hopefully it did reach the consumer in some form, but I’ve yet to hear of it airing to the punter…?
Brilliant. Love it.
Only one negative comment:
The copy line “a square bottle meant less breakages”.
Sadly, the technically/grammatically correct version is ‘fewer’ breakages.
What a shame, particularly for such a stunning piece.
Just fantastic Ill retweet it tooo !!!!!
that was so on-brand it hurt.
I can wait for the video response showing a drunk staggering down Sauchiehall Street with a bottle of JW in his hand, falling down a few times and when he finally gets home via the chipper beating the lights out of his missus.
^^^ I meant “I can’t wait” ^^^
It’s probably a bit upsetting for the Scots watching to see those subtitles across the whole thing. Surely by now we’re all familiar enough with Robert Carlyle’s brogue to make that unnecessary?
Great ad, from “Shut it, piper” through to the finish.
