Brisbane launches screen program

Brisbane City Council and Brisbane Marketing have launched Film Brisbane, an initiative to promote the Queensland capital as a screen production destination and differentiate it from the Gold Coast.

“We need to differentiate ourselves from the Gold Coast because we have a lot to offer. We don’t have the Warner Roadshow studios and we wouldn’t try to emulate them, but we have studios that attract TVC and smaller productions,” program manager Katherine Cooke told Encore.

“We will be working together with the Gold Coast, to make south east Queensland the premier destination for production. We have a lot of similarities and we’re both film-friendly councils, but there are points of difference; they generally attract large feature films, but we have locations, crew and facilities and locations that producers  might not be aware of,” added Cooke.

Film Brisbane is already in operation, but the official launch will take place later in the year, with the presentation of a new website offering a searchable location directory, as well as a local crew and services listing.
