Canon launches CinemaEOS in company’s biggest cinematography push yet
Canon today revealed its biggest attempt yet to win over the hearts of cinematographers with its new CinemaEOS product.
CinemaEOS is based on the new EOS C300 and EOS C300 PL cameras, along with a range of interchangeable lenses. When it goes on sale in Australia early next year, the camera will be priced at $17,999.
Australia was the only country where Canon held a simultaneous event with the launch of the camera in Hollywood.

Nice camera, but too pricey to be competitive, especially with the release of the RED Scarlet-X, which shoots RAW at 4K for $5K less. I think Canon have missed the mark here releasing a 1080p camera. It may have pulled some interest 12-18 months ago when everyone was 5D/7D crazy, but I put my money on RED now.
Travis has hit the nail on the head here. Low light capability is less of a selling point when all you offer is 1080p… And the lenses that are designed to pull the most out of this camera won’t be bargains either. I shoot regularly on 5D2 and RED and often on the same shoot. The Scarlet X from RED was officially announced (again) today and at under 15k for a production ready kit (that uses Canon lenses!) and far more res to play with, I’m thinking RED will be very happy with Canon’s rather underwhelming announcement today… Pity… I had high hopes, as did a lot of DPs out there. Canon also failed to stream / manage PR on this uber event… The best that non-attendees could get (still) is photos and dodgy video from. Loggers at the event… Nothing even on their website yet… Weird.
