Charlie Pickering to leave The Project next month
Comedian Charlie Pickering will leave The Project next month, he has announced during the show tonight.
Pickering explained on the Channel Ten show he is due to become a father, with the announcement coming afterformer co-host Dave Hughes left the show at the end of last year to be replaced with Peter Helliar.
His last day with the show will be April 7.
A Channel Ten spokesperson said: “We’re not looking for a new Charlie. Carrie and Pete will lead the show. We’ve got very good regular panellists on The Project. We will be expanding their roles and looking for one or two new contributors.”
Pickering has co-hosted The Project on Ten since it launched in July 2009, first as a half hour show The 7pm Project, and then as it expanded to become the hour long show also hosted by comedian Dave Hughes, now Peter Helliar, and presenter Carrie Bickmore.
The Project is currently one of Ten’s best rating shows.
Well, that’s the end of that show then. I imagine Nine and Seven are scrambling for his services.
Best of luck with the family, Charlie!
We’ve enjoyed watching you on The Project over the past few years.
I’ll miss him signing his pre-scripted quips at the end of each segment. Why does he need to sign it? Cracks me up every time!
Its scary to think they are pre-scripted and they still made the cut.
This is a huge loss to the program. Charlie was the guy who plays both roles – straight man and class clown.
So sorry to see you go Chalie but reluctantly understand thank you for having a conscience and sticking up for the underdog and keeping Steve Price in check.
We will follow your career and wish you and your family everything good in life.
Everyone off the sinking ship.
Good luck Charlie. You are a professional. Will miss you.
he was good at the one liners but looked awkward when the serious stuff happens…..
Thank goodness
Goodbye Charlie. You will be MISSED deeply :(. Good Luck and Thankyou.
we’ll miss you, youve been in our telly every night for ever .good luck to you and your family. Stay safe and enjoy xx
I been watching the project tonight and i was in full on tears tonight
