Chris Graham to take over New Matilda

Independent news outlet New Matilda has come back from the brink of closure for the second time with investigative journalist Chris Graham to take over as editor of the website.

As Mumbrella reported last week New Matilda faced closure after its editor Marni Cordell revealed it was failing to make enough money to sustain itself from user subscriptions, and was facing closure unless someone suitable stepped up to take it on.

Cordell, who has since been appointed Crikey editor, said in a post on the website that she was pleased to be handing it over adding: “Chris stood out among a handful of potential successors because he has a clear vision for NM and a strong track record as an investigative journalist.

No Offence to Mr Graham — I’m sure he is a fine journalist – but how is this going to change the fact that NM is not making enough money to sustain itself. Is there a new, improved business model here somewhere?
