Commercial Radio sector takes aim at regulator ACMA and Media Watch
The commercial radio industry has called for a review of regulation of the sector, taking aim at both official and unofficial forms of oversight.
The newly re-elected board of Commercial Radio Australia, this afternoon, took aim at the current co-regulatory regime facing the industry and called on the government to look at whether it should reduce the current levels oversight.
Commercial Radio Australia CEO, Joan Warner said in a statement: “The CRA Board is united in its view that regulation on commercial radio in this country must be reviewed and reduced in an increasingly competitive media and communications environment”
“Traditional media, and in particular commercial radio, is operating in an increasingly complex and convergent media and communications environment, often with one hand tied behind its back in a regulatory sense.”
Disclosure, disclosure, disclosure. If the likes of Jones,Hadley & Smith wish to legalise their constant lies & exaggeration perhaps they could inform viewers at regular intervals throughout their program that they are admitted liars, so believe at your own risk.
That’s a good idea Jane. Let them say whatever they like, factually correct or not (which is essentially what happens now) but make the commercial radio station run a clear disclaimer every 15 mins or so saying that the larger part of everything said by the presenter is substantially incorrect.
Their reliance on newspapers for content IS the problem. Or should that be newspaper ie. The Tele.
