‘Critically important’ Seven is no longer seen as just a broadcaster: Clive Dickens following amended Yahoo7 deal
Seven no longer wants to be seen as just a broadcaster and instead hopes to be viewed as a total video company, the network’s chief digital officer Clive Dickens has told Mumbrella following its amended joint venture with Yahoo, which will see it launch its own long-form video platform.
Of the amended deal, Dickens said direct-to-consumer brands and partnering to scale will be the group’s immediate focus.
Classic stuff – a tonne more cost and no more revenue. Never seen a group spend so much for so little (PacPubs, digital sport and now catch-up). The grass is always greener I guess. Whatever happened to the real Dickens…. “Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure ninteen, nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery.”
what a dogs breakfast of a “strategy”. Most of it doesn’t even make sense. (“He said Seven was able to go direct to consumers with its own brands, such as Seven Live or Seven Tennis, and then partner to scale with Verizon in the “battle for attention” which exists on the internet daily.” What???). Of course Y7’s revenue and profitability will drop as a result of losing video (the fastest growing digital advertising category, along with mobile). And does Yahoo even continue to exist as brand – aren’t AOL rebranding everything to that equally idiotic name “Oath”? As for Clive giving Ed Harrison, Paul Sigaloff etc at Y7 his official vote of confidence/seal of approval – well, that sounds ominously much like the “he/she has my full support” line that inevitably precedes the demise of politicians and sports coaches everywhere. Its the beginning of the end for Y7
Oath is to Yahoo as Alphabet is to Google. Its a holding company of Brands. Yahoo’s brand in AU will never go
A classic “you’ve been Clive’d” moment. Lots of talk but when you actually pick apart what was said none of it makes sense. Welcome to life at SWM.
