Day four of the Australian Open Golf tournament brings 229,000 metro viewers to Seven
The fourth day of the Australian Open Golf has brought 229,000 metro viewers to Seven. The coverage, which ran from midday to 5pm on the network’s primary channel, saw world number 179 and local champion Matt Jones take the Stonehaven Cup title.
Elsewhere in sport, on 7Mate the Women’s Big Bash League wrapped with the Brisbane Heat securing another title win, giving the team back-to-back championships. 205,000 metro viewers tuned in for the second session of the match on the multi-channel.

The Brisbane Heat are the WBBL champions for a second year
“The coverage, which ran from midday to 5pm on the network’s primary channel saw Adam Scott, Jason Day and Marc Leishman take part in the fight for the Stonehaven Cup against international stars including Sergio Garcia and Paul Casey.”
Really?
Jason Day withdrew pre-tournament on November 29 due to his recurrent back injury, and Sergio Garcia didn’t make the cut, so I can’t see how they were “in the fight”.
Paul Casey managed to tie for fifth, Leishmann tied for tenth, and Adam Scott tied for thirty-third, so at best they were ringside.
The fight was between winner Matt Jones and Louis Oosthuizen one stroke behind, and the Japanese amateur Takumi Kanaya and Aaron Pike who tied for third.
I’m suspecting that a very old press release before the first tee-off was relied upon for this story.
Hi Uh Oh Hannah…
You caught me! I don’t know anything about golf – which is why I report on TV ratings and don’t cover sporting news. I can confirm your theory that the press release was clearly out of date. Thank you for the update, I have amended the story.
Thanks,
Hannah – Mumbrella
