Deborah Knight quits 2GB, tipped for increased TV role

Deborah Knight has reportedly quit her gig with Nine radio to shift her focus back to television.
The seasoned journalist and broadcaster has been with Nine Radio for over five years.

Deborah Knight
She first joined 2GB in early 2020 to host 2GB Afternoons, as the replacement for Steve Price. She took on the role after being axed as a host of Nine’s breakfast show Today.
After four years, she was dropped from Afternoons, and instead took on a new gig hosting Money News.
Money News “plays a key role dissecting the pressures facing small business and household budgets” according to Greg Byrnes, former head of content, current 2GB station manager and national content manager at Nine Radio. It runs Monday to Thursday across 2GB, 3AW, 4BC, and 6PR, from 7-8pm.
She has been one of 2GB’s few female voices and one of only 31 female employees (out of 92 total). Her departure could have significant implications for the station’s gender pay gap, which according to the most recent WGEA data, is already high at 51.1%.
On top of her daily radio gig, Knight is currently the host of Nine’s A Current Affair on weekends.
Several reports, including from The Australian, suggest Knight will be solely focused on television again, and she is favoured to host Nine’s daytime news bulletin.
One report suggests there are several well-known names being trialled for the permanent hosting role.
Nine did not confirm or deny the reports. It declined to comment when approached by Mumbrella.
